      General questions about your Western Union Prepaid MasterCard and Visa Card

      1. Is the Western Union Prepaid MasterCard or Visa Card a credit card?

      No. To spend money, you must load funds onto your Western Union Prepaid MasterCard or Visa Card. You can load funds at any participating Western Union Agent location or by using Direct Deposit. When you use your Card, the amount of each transaction, including any applicable service fees, is deducted from your account balance.

      2. What information will I need to enroll for a Western Union Prepaid MasterCard or Visa Card?

      You will need to give this information when you enroll for a Card: 


      Name

      United States address

      Home phone number

      Date of birth

      U.S. citizen: Social Security Number

      Non-U.S citizen: US Driver's license, passport number, personal tax ID or Matricula Consular (Mexico Citizens)

      You may be asked for additional information if needed for further identification purposes.


      3. How do I update my personal information?

      You can update your personal information, such as your home address and phone number, by calling the customer service number on the back of your Card or by accessing your account online.

      4. How do I find a nearby Western Union Agent location?

      Find a nearby Agent location online or call 1-800-325-6000 anytime day or night. For Spanish-language help, call 1-800-325-4045.

      5. Do you conduct credit checks?

      No. We do not conduct any credit checks.

      6. Can I have more than one account?

      No. There is a limit of one Visa Card card account or MasterCard Card card account per person as well as a limit of one card per account.

      7. Can I enroll for a Western Union Prepaid MasterCard or Visa Card if I am not a U.S. citizen?

      Yes. But you must have a U.S. physical mailing address in order to enroll. A non-U.S. citizen must provide a US driver's license, passport number, a personal tax ID or Matricula Consular (Mexico Citizens).

      8. What happens to the balance on my Western Union Debit Card when I receive my actual Western Union Prepaid MasterCard?

      If you enrolled at an Agent location and received a Western Union Debit Card, your balance will be added to your Western Union Prepaid MasterCard upon activation. Your Debit Card will be deactivated.

      11. Can I have my Western Union Prepaid MasterCard or Visa Card sent to a PO Box?

      No. Cards must be shipped to a physical and verifiable U.S. street address.

      12. Does my Western Union Prepaid MasterCard or Visa Card help build credit?

      No. Currently, your Western Union Prepaid MasterCard or Visa Card does not build your credit. Transaction history is not reported to credit bureaus.


      Questions about putting cash on your Western Union Prepaid MasterCard and Visa Card

      1. How do I load my Western Union Prepaid MasterCard or Visa Card?

      Your Western Union Prepaid MasterCard or Visa Card can be reloaded at any participating Western Union Agent locations in the United States. At the Agent location, complete the grey Prepaid Services form, then hand your Western Union Prepaid MasterCard and your cash payment plus the applicable Load Fee (up to $4.95). Your loaded funds are typically available within minutes.

      Card reloads online or by phone are not available now.


      2. Is there a minimum and maximum amount of funds I can load on my Western Union Prepaid MasterCard or Visa Card?

      There is a minimum load of $30 and a maximum load of $950. The total balance on the Western Union Prepaid MasterCard cannot exceed $2,500 at any time. The total balance on the Western Union Prepaid Visa Card cannot exceed $5,000 at any time. Other restrictions apply.

      3. Can someone else load funds to my Western Union Prepaid MasterCard or Visa Card?

      Only the cardholder or their employer, through Direct Deposit, can load funds to a Card. Your Card must be present when you load funds at an Agent location.

      4. Can I add funds to my Western Union Prepaid MasterCard or Visa Card at an ATM?

      No. You can only add funds to your Card at an Agent location or through Direct Deposit by your employer.

      5. How can I deposit my paycheck on my Western Union Prepaid MasterCard or Visa Card?

      Print out the Direct Deposit form from your card account website and fill it out completely. You will need to obtain a Direct Deposit authorization form from your employer. Return both completed forms to your employer.

      6. When is my Direct Deposit available for use?

      Your Direct Deposit funds are available to spend at 11:30 a.m. Central Standard Time on the day that your deposit is made to your Card.

      7. Can I have more than one Direct Deposit per month?

      Yes, you may have unlimited Direct Deposits to your account per month, but your Card balance cannot be more than the maximum card balance at any time. You may only load a Direct Deposit from one employer. If you have more than one employer, only one can Direct Deposit funds onto your Card.

      8. Who can Direct Deposit funds to my account?

      Only one employer may send Direct Deposits to your card.

      9. Do I need a bank account for Direct Deposit?

      No. You do not need a separate bank account. Download a Direct Deposit form found on the Card account website, fill in the last 10 digits of your card and submit the form to your employer.


      Questions about using your Western Union Prepaid MasterCard and Visa Card

      1. What if I spend more money than I have on my card?

      Generally a purchase that is greater than your Card’s available balance will be declined. But, sometimes a merchant puts an item through without prior authorization. If your purchase is more than the amount in your available balance, you will be charged a fee of $25.00 for each purchase that overdraws your account.

      Overdraft protection is not currently available.


      2. Can I get a loan from the Western Union Prepaid MasterCard or Visa Card?

      No. Your Card does not offer loans.

      3. Can I use my Western Union Prepaid MasterCard or Visa Card at ATMs?

      Yes, you may use the MasterCard to obtain cash from any ATM that has the MasterCard®, Maestro®, Cirrus® or STAR® brand. You may use the Visa Card to obtain cash from any ATM that has the Visa®, or STAR® brand. A fee of $2.00 applies to each ATM transaction, in addition to any fees the ATM owner may charge.

      Be sure to choose checking when prompted.


      4. How much cash can I take out from the ATM per day?

      You can take out cash from an ATM as many times a day as you would like, however, you may not withdraw more than $500 total per day. Remember, there is a $2.00 fee for each ATM withdrawal, plus any fees that the ATM operator may charge.

      5. How do I select a PIN?

      You will receive your PIN when you receive your
      Western Union Prepaid MasterCard or Visa Card. You will not receive a confirmation in the mail. You should not write or keep your PIN with your Card. If you change your PIN, you will be charged a $1.00 fee.


      6. What happens if I need to return an item purchased with the Western Union Prepaid MasterCard or Visa Card?

      The merchant will handle the return in accordance with MasterCard or Visa guidelines. The merchant may credit your Card, provide a cash refund, or issue a store credit.

      7. Can I use my Western Union Prepaid MasterCard or Visa Card to pay for gasoline at the pump?

      Yes, but a pay-at-the-pump transaction involves a pre-authorization of at least $75. If you do not have $75 on your Card, your Card will be declined. By paying for your gasoline inside, only the actual purchase amount will be withdrawn from your Card balance.

      8. What is a pre-authorization?

      A pre-authorization is done when a merchant places a hold on funds on your Card to ensure payment. For example, a restaurant may pre-authorize a set amount when you open a tab. If your bill is less than the pre-authorized amount, those remaining funds may be held for a period before being released to your available balance.

      9. What if my Western Union Prepaid MasterCard or Visa Card is lost or stolen?

      If your Western Union Prepaid MasterCard or Visa Card is lost or stolen, please refer to any paper statements or your account on the cardholder Web site to access the number to report your card lost or stolen and ask for a replacement card. If you notify BankFirst within two (2) business days after the loss of your Card, you will not be responsible for purchases that you didn’t make. After you notify BankFirst, your Card account will be closed and you will be charged a $10.00 Lost or Stolen Card Replacement Fee.

      10. How can I remove funds from my Western Union Prepaid MasterCard or Visa Card to close the account?

      There are three ways to do this.

      1. Use your Card at any participating merchant to purchase goods and services.

      2. Withdraw the funds at an ATM machine.*

      3. For a $10.00 liquidation fee, you can remove funds by calling customer service using the toll-free number on the back of your card. Please allow 30 days from the time of your request for your reimbursement check to arrive.

      *Any ATM transaction fees and surcharges will still apply.


      11. Do I choose debit or credit while shopping?

      You can choose either debit or credit.

      12. Can I reload my temporary Western Union Debit Card?

      No. You currently cannot reload your temporary card.

      13. Where can I use my Western Union Debit Card?

      Your Western Union Debit Card can be used for cash withdrawals at any ATM machine displaying the STAR® brand in the United States or as a debit card anywhere STAR cards are accepted by entering your four-digit PIN. A cash withdrawal fee of $2.00 plus applicable ATM operator fees apply.

      14. How do I check my Card balance?

      To check your balance, you can access your account to see the last three months of transactions and your current balance. Or call the toll-free number on the back of your Card to hear your available balance or the last five transactions on your account.

      15. What is the difference between current and available balance?

      The current balance does not include pre-authorizations. The available balance reflects the amount of funds you have available at the time you check your balance.

      16. Will I receive a monthly statement?

      Statements are available monthly for each month in which there is at least one transaction, and no less than every three months.

      During enrollment, you will be asked if you want to receive your statement electronically or by mail. There is no charge to receive electronic statements, but there is a $2.00 fee per paper statement that we send by mail.

      Obtaining A Card: The USA PATRIOT Act is a federal law that requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify and record information that identifies each person who opens a Card Account. What this means: When a consumer opens a Card Account, BankFirst will ask for the consumer's name, address, date of birth and other information that will identify the consumer. The consumer will need to provide his/her Social Security number if a U.S. citizen or personal Tax ID or passport number if a non-U.S. citizen. BankFirst may also ask to see your driver’s license or other identifying documents. Western Union may provide the information given to the Western Union Agent clerk to BankFirst.
